Pomare Train Station

2023 / New Train Station Shelter

The Pomare area has recently seen a flourish of medium density building as the developers see the opportunity of cheaper land and higher demand. The original modern 1940s station had been added to rendering the building a seismic risk and hazardous from a CPTED perspective. Factoring in also the repairs needed following a long period of neglect the decision was made to demolish and rebuild to provide a new modern shelter for the increasing local population.

The platform is flanked with tracks on both sides. So the shelter design was envisaged as a simple semi sheltered central box that protects the seating and stair circulation with canopies extending out to the platform edges. The expressed primary steel frame and smaller secondary frames paired with timber screens and glazing, all reflect a pattern of design materials and arrangement that is consistent with Metlink's emerging identity.
